Pakkasilla varpaitani paleni. Vanhat uskolliset töppöseni alkavat vedellä jo viimeisiään ja päätin neuloa uudet. Tosin, kun selailin blogiani, huomasin neuloneeni elokuussa töppöset, mutta mihinkähän ne ovat joutuneet? Löysin SNY:ni lähettämää mehevän väristä Létt Lopia ja ryhdyin tuumasta toimeen. Neuleestä tuli kaunista. Rupesin miettimään, että oikeastaan on sääli neloa näin ihanasta langasta töppösiä. Laskin kerät - 400 grammaa! Miehän saisin tästä langasta vaikkapa liivin!
Silmukkamäärät laskin vanhasta Létt-Lopi-paidasta. Etumuksen kuviointi löytyy Alice Starmoren Fishermen's Sweaters kirjasta. Neuloin liivin pyörönä pääntiehen asti. Hihansuut siksakkasin koneella ja rohkeasti leikkasin aukot (tämä aina jännittää!). Kaikki meni hyvin, paitsi että lanka uhkasi loppua. Sain kaula-aukon ja oikean kädenaukon resorit neulottua, mutta sitten lanka loppui. Ei hätää, serkku lupasi ostaa Helsingistä. Jätin neuleen koriin odottamaan lisälankaa. Sinne se uhkasi jäädäkin, sillä lankaa ei enää saa, sen maahantuontikin (vai vain tämän värin?) on lopetettu!
Mie olin halunnut tehdä liivistä muhkean ja siksi valitsin yhtä numeroa suuremmat puikot. Tosin lopussa paljastui, että olinkin epähuomiossa valinnut kaksi numeroa suuremmat puikot... Lanka olisi varmasti riittänyt pienemmillä puikoilla. No, sitä on nyt turhaa itkeä, kun on ne siksakit ommeltu ja kädensuut leikattu. Ei voi purkaa - paitsi kaula-aukon ja oikean käden aukon resoreista. Sieltä sain sen verran lankaa, että sain resorin neulottua - tosin paljon tiukempaa kuin muut resorit. Valmista kuitenkin tuli!
I wanted to knit slippers because my old ones are really worn out. As I was knitting the first slipper I realized that it was a shame to use such lovely and beautiful yarn to felted slippers. Since I had 400 grams of this wool - Létt-Lopi - I ripped what I had knitted and started to knit a vest! I used my old Lét-Lopi sweater to get the right number of stitches. The pattern in the front is from Alice Starmore's book Fishermen's sweaters.
I knitted with circular needles until neck, I used a sewing machine to zigzag the armholes. Then I cut them - that's always a bit scary! Anyways, everything was going nice and smooth and quite fast until I realized I would run out of yarn. I was almost finished, only the second armhole was not done. I wasn't too worried, my cousin would get me more in Helsinki. Except that they don't import Létt-Lopi (or is just this colour?)anymore and you can't get the yarn anymore. Just to order 1 skein of yarn from another country isn't an obtion for me - too expensive. So what to do? I ripped the ribbing from the neck and the other armhole to get enough yarn to finish the vest. If you carefully you can see that the ribbing on the leftside armhole is a lot tighter than the one on the right.
